USGS Earthquake Map
If you are looking for a real time earthquake map, you’ve come to the right place!
The USGS (United States Geological Survey) is the sole scientific bureau U.S. Department of Interior. USGS Employees study the topography and landscape of the country, including natural hazards and resources surrounding hydrology, geography, biology, and geography – including earthquakes.
The USGS has about 8,500 employees and is headquartered in Reston, VA. Other major offices are located in Rolla, MO, Anchorage, AK, Menlo Park, CA, and Denver, CO.
The cause of earthquakes is typically the rupture of faults in the Earth, but other activities can caus them such as landslides, mine blasts, volcanoes, and even nuclear testing. The place where an earthquake first starts is called the hypocenter. We refer to the point on the Earth’s surface right above the hypocenter as the epicenter.
